HU runs out of time in season opener

St. Mary's, Ind.  – Unfortunately time was the antagonist for the HU women's soccer team (0-1) Thursday afternoon in their season opener against Saint Mary-of-the-Woods. The Foresters scored late in the contest before yielding a 2-1 decision to the hosts.

After giving up two goals to the Pomeroys, one late in the first half and the second right after intermission, the Foresters kept things interesting when Caroline Shepherd found back netting in the 85th minute. Not only was the goal Huntington's first of the season, it also proved the junior forward's first of her collegiate career.

On the afternoon, Huntington more than doubled up their hosts in shots taken, 19-7, with 12 on goal to SMWC's five.

Ireland  Aerni took the loss between the sticks for HU. The junior keeper finished with three saves on the day. The Foresters' home opener is Tuesday against Cleary with opening kick slated for 4:00 p.m.

The Huntington University Foresters compete in 18 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 154 NAIA All-America honors and 501 All-America Scholar Athlete honors. Huntington University is a comprehensive Christian college of the liberal arts offering graduate and undergraduate programs in more than 70 academic concentrations.
