HU caps weekend with dominant win over Rochester Christian
Mount Vernon, Ohio - The Huntington volleyball team got off to a hot start Saturday morning in Ariel Arena on the campus of Mount Vernon Nazarene University and cruised to a three set sweep over the Rochester Christian Warriors (25-8, 25-21, 25-19).
Leah Carter and Kortney Grimm led the offensive attack with ten kills each, while Maisyn Robrock tallied eight on the day. Grimm's ten kills on 15 attacks with only two errors were a key ingredient to the Foresters' recipe for success. Hailey Kruse chipped in with seven kills on 12 attempts to balance the offensive attack.
Coach Kelsey Herber was pleased with the way her team executed the game plan. "Our passing was consistent all weekend, which has a tremendous effect on our ability to run a tempo offense."
Lauren Ross dished out 29 assists and contributed six digs on the day. The sophomore setter continues to impress as she establishes the rhythm of the HU offense. "I was proud of how we came strong out of the gate in the first set. Lauren Ross ran a beautiful tempo offense. We are walking away from this weekend with both confidence and knowledge of how we can grow."
On Wednesday the Foresters (2-1) head to Grand Rapids, Michigan to take on Olivet Nazarene University (1-3) and Aquinas College (0-0) at 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
