Seven Foresters among the list of All-League honorees

HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The Huntington baseball team was well represented on the list of 2023 Crossroads League All-Conference honorees as announced by the league office earlier today.

Headlining HU's long list of CL picks was sophomore Graham Kollen who was named the Pitcher of the Year as voted on by the league coaches. Also named to the First Team, the 6-3 hurler not only leads the league in wins with eight, he also posts a 2.84 ERA to top his CL peers in earned run average.

The Fort Wayne native (Homestead HS) has racked up a league-leading 94 strikeouts this season while surrendering just 68 hits, 28 runs, only 26 of which are earned, and 26 walks in 82.1 innings pitched. He has limited opponents to a .227 batting average while averaging 10.28 strikeouts per nine.

Joining Kollen on the First Team were three position players in Langston Ginder, Ian McCutcheon and Satchell Wilson.

Tabbed as the best second baseman in the league, Ginder leads the CL in RBI by nine with 68 while claiming the third most homeruns (15) and third most stolen bases (36). To date he has posted 71 hits, 31 for extra bases, a .360 batting average and a .685 slugging percentage. He boasts a team-leading 135 total bases and 43 base on balls. He and McCutcheon lead the team in runs scored with 65 each.  

Both McCutcheon and Wilson are repeat First Teamers from 2022 with an Honorable Mention badge to their name as well from two seasons ago.

McCutcheon (Huntington North HS, Huntington, Ind.) was one of four outfielders to earn a spot on the top team. The Huntington North product (Huntington, Ind.) has hammered out a team-leading 77 hits, 27 for extra bases. His .368 batting average also leads Frame's crew. Additionally, he's driven in 45 runs and racked up 118 total bases.

Defensively, McCutcheon was also named to the Gold Glove Team for his efforts in centerfield. It's his second gold glove praise with his first coming in 2021. He's committed just three errors this season for a fielding percentage of .979 while accumulating 114 putouts.

For the second straight season, Wilson was named the All-Conference shortstop. The senior from Anderson (Lapel HS) tops HU in slugging percentage (.708) and on base percentage (.498). He has collected 58 hits which includes 17 doubles, three triples and 11 dingers while scoring 62 times and driving in 40 runs.

Sophomore pitcher Tyler Papenbrock earned a spot on the Second Team. The HU southpaw has accumulated six wins, the 4th best in the league, and claims a 4.99 ERA. In 66.2 innings of work, he has struck out a team-best 89 batters while giving up 61 hits, 39 runs and 45 walks.

Graduate students Max Moser and Jarret Gray were also recognized by the league for the first time in their careers as Second Team picks. Gray (Huntington North HS, Warren, Ind.) is currently hitting .354 and has tallied 69 hits on the year, 23 for extra bases, while driving in 55 runs and touching home 48 times.

As Huntington's designated hitter, Moser (Jay County HS, Portland, Ind.) has pounded out 37 base knocks which includes eight doubles and six homeruns. He has 21 RBI and has come around to score 26 times. He enjoys a .485 slugging percentage and has piled up 63 total bases.

The Foresters broke the program record for most wins in a season with 38. Their overall record stands at 38-16.   

The Huntington University Foresters compete in 17 intercollegiate sports for men and women.
