Five Foresters honored by Crossroads League

HUNTINGTON, Ind. – Five members of the Huntington baseball team were recognized as some of the best in the Crossroads League as announced by the league office earlier today.

For the second straight year, Graham Kollen garnered First Team All-League praises as voted on by the league coaches. The 6-3 junior finished the year with seven wins, the fourth most in the league. He gave up 26 earned runs, 21 walks and 66 hits while working 60 strikeouts in 70.2 innings pitched.

Freshman RJ Anglin splashed onto the scene this year and for his efforts was also tabbed a First Teamer in addition to being named Co-Newcomer of the Year. In 65.1 innings on the mound, the LaPorte native surrendered 24 earned runs, 34 free passes and 49 base pokes while striking out 76 which places him sixth in the league in total strikeouts. He finished the year with six wins.  

The pair were two of the four pitchers to receive First Team shoutouts. Both finished with a 3.31 ERA to rank third among their league peers.

Joining Kollen and Anglin on the First Team was sophomore Jordan Malott. Malott was the All-Conference first baseman. He led the CL in RBI with 58. As his team's clean-up, he was the key cog offensively having posted a team-leading .352 batting average, the seventh highest average in the Crossroads League. He also led his team in hits with 57 which included 19 doubles and 11 home runs, both of which were team-bests.

For the second straight season, Tyler Papenbrock earned a spot on the Second Team. The Leo native racked up a league-leading 105 strikeouts while giving up 64 hits, 32 earned runs and 39 walks in 75.2 innings pitched. His ERA of 3.81 was the sixth best in the conference.

Rounding out the Foresters to be recognized by the league was newcomer Gregory Nolasco Berroa who joined Papenbrock as a Second Team pick. He finished one hit shy of Malott with 56, 25 for extra bases which included 15 doubles, three triples and seven dingers. He finished second in the league in stolen bases with 29. The junior outfielder scored a team-leading 47 runs and finished the year with a .296 batting average.

The Foresters wrapped up the year with an overall record of 30-21.The program has racked up at least 30 wins a year in three of the last four seasons.   

The Huntington University Foresters compete in 18 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 154 NAIA All-America honors and 501 All-America Scholar Athlete honors. Huntington University is a comprehensive Christian college of the liberal arts offering graduate and undergraduate programs in more than 70 academic concentrations.
