Wilson returns to HU as men’s basketball assistant coach
HUNTINGTON, Ind. – Huntington University Athletics is excited to announce that Mitchell Wilson has returned to his alma mater to serve as the full-time assistant coach for the Forester men's basketball program.
Wilson will work under newly appointed head coach Jared Jauch, bringing a deep understanding of HU's culture and a growing wealth of coaching experience. In his new role, Wilson will oversee player development, coordinate opponent scouting and analytics, and serve as the team's defensive coordinator. He will also play a key role in academic oversight, fundraising, community engagement, and recruiting.
"I'm excited to welcome Mitch Wilson back to Huntington University as an assistant coach," said Jauch. "Mitch was a key factor in helping build this program back to prominence as a player, and now he returns with invaluable experience from his time at Nevada and the Division I level. He's a high-level basketball mind who truly understands how to build meaningful relationships with young men and positively impact their lives far beyond the game. His return will pay dividends for our program in every way."
Wilson joins the HU coaching staff after serving as a graduate assistant at the University of Nevada under head coach Steve Alford. While with the Wolf Pack, he was instrumental in several areas including player development, scouting, video analysis and game-day operations. During his tenure, he helped coach two All-Mountain West players.
A standout at Columbia City High School, Wilson made his mark as the program's all-time leading scorer before continuing his playing career at HU. As a Forester, he helped lead the team to three NAIA National Tournament appearances, including two trips to the Round of 32. He served as a two-year team captain and was honored as an NAIA Scholar-Athlete. In addition to basketball, Wilson competed on the HU men's golf team and earned All-League recognition in 2024.
"I'm incredibly excited to return to my alma mater and serve alongside Coach Jauch at a University and within a program that lives out Christ-centered values in everything they do," said Wilson. "Huntington University is a truly special place, and I'm deeply grateful for the opportunity to invest in our student-athletes both on and off the court. My goal is to help build on the program's recent success and push it to even greater heights. This University, the Forester community and this basketball program have all played a huge role in my life, and I'm honored to give back to a place that means so much to me. Go Foresters!"
Wilson earned his bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Huntington University in 2024.
The Huntington University Foresters compete in 18 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 160 NAIA All-America honors and 567 All-America Scholar Athlete honors.
