Spring Arbor posts 2-0 win over HU on opening day of league play

HUNTINGTON, Ind. - The HU men's soccer team (7-3, 0-1) opened up league play with a battle against Spring Arbor (4-3-2, 1-0) at King Stadium where the visitors left with a 2-0 road win. With this loss, the Foresters drop to 7-3 overall, 0-1 in CL action.

The rivalry between the two squads is palpable with today no different. The last five times these teams have squared off slightly favors the Cougars 3-2.

Two goals are the most HU's defense has given up in a game so far this season. It's also just the second time this year that Huntington has been held scoreless.

Despite not getting the result hoped for, Coach Russ Lawson was positive. "I thought it was a well-played game with the difference being Spring Arbor scored on their chances and we didn't. I'm proud of our response after giving up two goals. I felt like we had the quality to comeback, it just wasn't there for us in our finishing."

Spring Arbor scored with ten minutes left in the first half and then added their insurance goal three minutes into the second frame. HU had 13 looks to SAU's ten. Huntington also had the edge in corner kicks 4-2.

Pedro Moreira finished with five saves in the losing effort in frame. Next up for Lawson and crew is a trip to Taylor on Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. kick-off.
