Collins has career day at CL Championships

MARION, Ind. - The HU outdoor track and field program brought home five All-Conference badges from the 2024 Crossroads League Championships over the weekend at IWU's Wildcat Track and Field Complex.

Zach Collins turned in a pair of banner performances. He made it three-for-three in the 200 meters by clocking in at 21.00 to take first for the third straight year. His time also proved a new meet and Huntington record. The junior speedster also won the 100 meters in 10.46. His time of 10.42 in the prelims was a personal best and broke his own Forester record.

In his victory lap as a fifth-year, Kent Yoder earned a piece of All-League hardware by finishing second in the 10,000 meters with a time of 31:29.22. Over the course of his Forester career, the Shipshewana native has racked up three All-Conference shoutouts in the 10K having finished second each time.

Senior Reece Gibson also had an impressive outing. New to the 3000 meter steeplechase this season, the Concordia Lutheran product took third in 9:19.57 and automatically qualified for nationals later this month.

As a team, the Forester men finished seventh with 49 points. Marian dominated the men's field with 269 points followed by IWU (130.5), MVNU (95), Grace (87), Taylor (66), Spring Arbor (65), Huntington (49), Bethel (37), Goshen (35) and Saint Francis (9.5).

Malarie Pinwar claimed HU's lone All-League honor on the women's side by finishing third in the 5000 meters in 17:28.99. Her time proved an A standard. The Forester 4x800 meter relay team hit the provisional mark for nationals. The foursome of Lydia Baker, Mackenzie Brewer, Pinwar and Emily Tedder turned in a six-place time of 9:31.37.

The Forester women finished with 36 points to claim eighth. Marian also earned women's title with 161 points followed by IWU (149), Bethel (136), Taylor (125.5), Grace (98.5), Goshen (52), Saint Francis (43), Huntington (36), Spring Arbor (34) and MVNU (20).
