Foresters well represented in league’s postseason awards

HUNTINGTON, Ind. – Five Foresters from the Huntington softball program were honored by the Crossroads League for their outstanding play this spring as announced earlier today.

Topping the list for Coach Ehler's crew was sophomore Jess Duvall who was one of 18 players to earn a spot on the league's First Team. She finished tenth in the CL in runs batted in with a team-leading 33. The Vevay (Ind.) native also paced HU in hits with 52 which included 12 for extra bases. She posted a .349 batting average and scored 29 times.

Duvall also earned gold glove honors for her defensive play at third base. She racked up 79 putouts and 82 assists. She finished the year with a fielding percentage of .925 having committed 13 errors at the hot spot.

Freshman Kinzie Mollenkopf was quick to make her presence known throughout the league and for her efforts garnered Second Team accolades. The rookie hurler racked up 11 wins, nine of which were complete games, to rank sixth among her CL peers. She also claimed a top ten finish in the league with 67 KOs, the ninth most by any Crossroads League pitcher. In the 112.2 innings she spent in the circle, she allowed 132 hits and 63 earned runs and gave up just 37 walks while striking out 67.

Carli Tharp was also a Second Team pick. The sophomore centerfielder ranked 14th in the league in batting average with an overall percentage of .364. She was even more dangerous in CL games where she posted a .389 batting average. She piled up 44 hits and 19 RBI. She touched home 29 times and was perfect in stolen bases at 18-for-18.

Sophomore Gena Moore received a Second Team praise as well. An outfield companion to Tharp, Moore collected 48 hits, eight for extra bases, and 24 RBI. She rounded the bases 36 times. She recorded a .345 batting average which included striking out just seven times throughout the spring.

Senior Courtney Mason saved her best for last to receive an Honorable Mention shoutout. She logged 42 hits and drove in 31 runs to rank 14th in the league in RBI. The Blissfield (Mich.) native scored 21 times and finished the year with a .307 batting average. Defensively, she registered 250 putouts and was near perfect at first base where she posted a .993 fielding percentage having committed just two blunders on the season.

Huntington wrapped up the season with an overall record of 27-27. Twenty-seven wins is the most program wins in a season since 2017.

The Huntington University Foresters compete in 18 intercollegiate sports for men and women.
