Haselby tosses one-hit shutout over Hannibal-LaGrange before HU blanked by Cornerstone

Melbourne, Fla. – The Forester softball team wrapped up their spring break with a split Friday afternoon. After blanking Hannibal-LaGrange, 2-0, HU suffered a 2-0 loss to Cornerstone. It was the second time this week Huntington topped Hannibal-LaGrange with their first encounter a 5-1 difference.

Coach Averill's crew piled up a 7-3 record while in the Sunshine State competing in the Space Coast Games. The Foresters are carrying an 11-3 overall record.

Against the Trojans in the first game, it wasn't until the sixth frame that Huntington finally manufactured their two runs. HU cashed in on two of their six hits to open up the sixth with the second, Gena Moore's single, knocking in Jess Duvall. Moore then came around to score on an RBI-ground out by Maddie Goheen.

It proved the game's only excitement with Natalie Haselby making sure Hannibal-LaGrange didn't get anything going at the plate. The junior southpaw tossed a complete-game one-hit shutout. The only base poke she gave up came in the fourth. She struck out three batters, didn't issue any walks but hit two batters in her near-perfect performance in the circle.

Moore hogged half her team's hits with three. Kasey Hickle posted two with Jess Duvall collecting the sixth and final Forester hit.

Against Cornerstone, HU was on the wrong end of a shutout. They finished with six hits to the Golden Eagles' five and drew four base on balls but couldn't crack Cornerstone pitcher McKenna Gilde for any runs. Over the course of the contest, the Foresters left nine baserunners stranded.

HU kicks off league play on Tuesday with a trip to Marian with the first game of the doubleheader to start at 3:00 p.m.
