HU wraps up regular season with road win at Goshen

GOSHEN, Ind. - The Huntington women's basketball team wrapped up the regular season with a 75-64 road win over Goshen (9-19, 4-14) Saturday afternoon at the Ruth Gunden Gymnasium. With this win, the Foresters improve to 15-13 which includes a 9-9 CL record.

HU has strung together three straight wins over the Maple Leafs, all of which have been by double figures.

On this given afternoon, most of the contest was up for grabs until the final few minutes. While the guests led the entire fourth quarter, the first 30 minutes featured nine ties and 14 lead changes. It wasn't until late in the game that Maggard and crew finally built a double-digit lead. In fact, up until the midway point of the fourth, no more than two possessions separated the two squads.

Emily Seboe, who had nailed a three to start the fourth, finally changed all of that when she connected on a traditional three-point play with just under five minutes to go that extended HU's lead from six to nine points at 61-52.

Kyndell Jochim stole the show shortly after when she drained back-to-back long balls, which included a step-back three, within a 20-second span to grow the lead to 12 at 67-55 with 3:10 remaining. At that point, it was clock management and trips to the free throw line which HU gladly embraced to claim the 11-point victory.

Olivia Raby was a handful down low for the hosts. The 6-1 center finished with a career-tying 21 points to go along with seven boards and two blocks. Jochim poured in a career-high 16 points off the bench, 12 of which came from deep. Gabi Melby also chipped in 16 points in addition to posting four rebounds and four assists.

Seboe rounded out Huntington's double digit scoring with ten. Annaka Nelson enjoyed game-high rebounding honors with eight.

Goshen was paced by Nay Butler's 13 points. Sophia Eli and Zion Neat added 12 and ten points respectively.

The Foresters finished tied for fifth with Grace in the regular season standings with the tiebreaker coming down to the Massey ratings which favored the Lancers. As the sixth seed in the tourney, HU will travel to 3rd-seeded Spring Arbor on Tuesday for the quarterfinals with tip-off slated for 7:00 p.m.
