Bio

The 2024-25 season marks the third year for head coach Darby Maggard at the helm of the Forester women’s basketball program.

Maggard's first two years saw six players earn All-Conference honors which includes 2024 Freshman of the Year Bailey Kelham. Her athletes have also claimed six NAIA Scholar Athlete accolades. 

Prior to taking over the HU reins, Maggard served two years as an assistant at UT Martin where she helped guide the Skyhawks to an Ohio Valley Conference regular season title and an NIT appearance.

Maggard played collegiately at Belmont University where she is the program’s all-time leader in three-point field goals (430), three-point field goal percentage (43.1 percent) and free throw percentage (92.4 percent). She is just the fourth player in Bruin history and first in the team’s Division I era to eclipse 2,000 career points (2,031).

Additionally, Maggard is the only player in NCAA history to dish out at least 650 career assists while also making more than 400 three-pointers. Her record-breaking career includes league marks for career three-point field goals (430) and consecutive free throws made (45).

During her time in red and blue, she helped guide the Bruins to four consecutive Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Tournament titles, four NCAA Tournament appearances and three regular season championships. She was named the 2019 OVC Player of the Year, Tennessee Sports Writers Association Player of the Year and OVC Female Athlete of the Year while tallying four straight All-OVC first team and OVC All-Tournament team honors for her career.

Maggard’s resume also includes being tabbed a 2019 AP All-American and the 2019 State Farm College 3-Point Championship runner-up.

Following her decorated collegiate career, Maggard spent a season playing professionally for the Liffey Celtics of the Irish Super League in Ireland.

No stranger to the area, Maggard spent her prep career at Canterbury High School. The crafty point guard was the 2015 Indiana Miss Basketball runner-up having averaged 28.1 points and 7.7 assists per game as a senior.

Maggard was also named to the Indiana All-Star Team and was a McDonald’s All-America nominee. Other honors included being named the 21 Alive Fort Wayne Girls Basketball Player of the Year, News Sentinel Player of the Year along with four all-area and all-state honors. She set two Canterbury records which includes most points in a game (47) and most assists in a game (17). The ESPNW ranked No. 94 prospect led her squad to back-to-back state titles in 2012 and 2013.

In addition to serving as the Forester women's basketball head coach, Maggard is also the Assistant Athletic Director for Recruitment. She holds a BS in Psychology with a minor in Sport Administration from Belmont and an MBA from the University of Tennessee.
