Shepherd/McGinnis combo paces HU to 2-2 draw with (RV) Bethel

Huntington, Ind. – The Forester women's soccer team finished in a 2-2 draw with #RV Bethel Saturday afternoon at King Stadium. The tie is HU's fourth of the year which includes a 0-0 stalemate in their conference opener earlier this week at Goshen.

The Sofie Shepherd/Elana McGinnis combination is one of the most dangerous duos in the Crossroads League as officially confirmed this afternoon. The pair accounted for both of Huntington's goals. Shepherd opened up the day's scoring twenty minutes in after catching up to McGinnis' pass with Katie Hooley setting the stage when she intercepted a throw in at midfield.

The sophomore Shepherd has nine goals this season, 15 for her career. HU's 1-0 advantage held until just before halftime when the Pilots knotted things up in the 39th minute. Bethel's momentum carried into the second half, climbing on top 2-1 five minutes after taking the pitch in period two.

It didn't take long for the hosts to swing the pendulum back their direction. Six minutes after BU's second goal, McGinnis again fed Shepherd who outworked her defender and chipped in the equalizer far post. Offense dried up after that to remain 2-2 by the final horn. Shepherd fired off all five of HU's shots on the day while five Pilots combined to post 16 shots.

Ireland Aerni collected nine saves on the day to earn the tie in net. The Foresters (5-1-4, 0-0-2) make the short trip to Fort Wayne on Wednesday to face Saint Francis at 7:00 p.m.
