Foresters Stymied in 2-0 Road Loss to USF
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Huntington women's soccer team came up empty in a 2-0 loss to Saint Francis Saturday night at Bishop John M. D'Arcy Stadium.
After a scoreless opening frame, the Cougars broke through early in the second half with a pair of goals just three minutes apart. Grace Hein found the back of the net in the 59th minute to put USF on the board before Evelyn Harkenrider doubled the advantage in the 62nd minute off an assist from Haylee Heflin. From there, the hosts tightened up defensively to preserve the shutout—their fifth of the season.
Juniors Sophie Shepherd and Jianna Simons led the Forester attack, combining for seven of the team's eight shots. HU's keeper Macie Sanders finished with five saves as the Cougars outshot Huntington 12-8 and held a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.
"We are not satisfied with anything tonight," said Coach Keaton Albert. "Yet still, God knows and sees us. And now more than ever, leadership is vital. Each of us will need to take a next level of competitiveness and grit. The call to that level of excellence must happen now."
With the loss, Huntington drops to 5-7 overall and 0-5 in Crossroads League play, while Saint Francis improves to 7-5-1 (1-4 CL). The Foresters are back in action Wednesday at Goshen, with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m.
