Foresters spend weekend at Wittenburg

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The HU indoor track and field program took the majority of their athletes to the Steemer Showcase hosted by Wittenburg University on Saturday while a handful of throwers stayed local to compete in Taylor's Trojan Invite.

Erica Xayarath had another solid weekend of competition by hitting an A standard in long jump with her winning leap of 5.72 meters. She also finished tied for third with teammate Josey Reineman in high jump where they both reached a mark of 1.64 meters.

Malarie Pinwar also punched her ticket to nationals with a B standard in the mile by clocking in at 5:07.57 which proves the eighth fastest time in HU history. The Foresters dominated the 1000 meters with Emily Tedder taking first in 3:02.84. Pinwar was on her heels for second in 3:03.41 while Mackenzie Brewer turned in a fourth place finish in 3:08.16.

Aanyah Wright highlighted the Taylor meet with her first place finish in weight throw with a heave of 14.64 meters.  

On the men's side, Austin Liepe hit a provisional mark in the mile by clocking in at 4:16.41 good for fourth place at the meet and the third fastest mile by a Forester. He added another top five finish in the 1000 meters where he posted a 2:39.89.

Zach Collins sprinted his way to second in the 400 meters in 48.08. He then teamed up with Sam Handerson, Corbin Till and Grady Martin to win the 4x200 meter relay in 1:29.60. Till also earned a spot in the HU record books at #9 in the 200 meters by clocking in at 23.17.

Huntington is back in action on Saturday for the IWU Midwest Classic.
