Foresters Swept by Marian in Conference Tourney
Huntington, Ind.- The 6th-seeded Huntington University women's volleyball season came to an end in the first round of the Crossroads League tournament Saturday at Marian University. The Foresters were swept by the 3rd-seeded Knights, 25-14, 25-13, 25-22.
Marian never trailed in the first two sets on their way to taking control of the match. The Foresters were able to get some momentum in the third set off the swing of Leah Carter. The junior middle recorded four kills in a six-point run by HU that turned a 15-12 deficit into a 18-15 lead. The Knights trailed 20-18 late in the match but rattled off five straight points to regain control of the set, holding on to win 25-22.
Carter led HU with 11 kills and senior Kortney Grimm notched six. The senior from Gahanna, Ohio ended her time in green with 969 career kills. Lauren Ross and Layla Meyer each had 15 digs on the defensive side of the net.
"The season coming to an end and realizing the seniors are no longer a part of the roster is always the hardest part of my job," noted Coach Kelsey Herber. "I am grateful for the way these five women have impacted our program, and their influence will continue throughout the next generation of HU volleyball. We experienced significant adversity this season, and I believe God has used every challenge and every victory to refine and grow us. I am confident that there are bright things ahead for Forester volleyball!"
The Foresters finish the season with a 15-16 overall record, with a highlight being the late season victory over 18th-ranked Grace.
