Foresters honored by USTFCCCA for classroom success

HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The Forester cross country program was praised for their classroom success in the 2023 Cross Country NAIA Academic Awards as announced by the USTFCCCA.

Sophomore Addy Wiley headlined the NAIA women's cross country honors by being deemed the Women's Scholar Athlete of the Year. It's the third time in the past five years that an athlete from HU has earned this prestigious award.

Wiley along with Deann Fry, Molly Harding, Alyeska Linsley, Anna Martin, Malarie Pinwar and Emily Tedder were tabbed Academic All-Americans. To be selected for this award, student-athletes must carry a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and qualify for the national championship meet.

As a team, the Huntington women's squad posted a collective 3.657 GPA and for their efforts were tabbed an All-Academic Team by the USTFCCCA. The Foresters were one of 66 teams to garner this distinction.

Four members of the men's crew who competed at nationals were designated All-Academic Athletes which included Isaac Combs, Austin Liepe, Tyler Loucks and Kent Yoder.  

As a squad, the Forester men were also named an All-Academic Team based on their collective GPA of 3.516 In all, 59 teams earned this praise for having a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.

The Huntington University Foresters compete in 18 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 160 NAIA All-America honors and 567 All-America Scholar Athlete honors. Huntington University is a comprehensive Christian college of the liberal arts offering graduate and undergraduate programs in more than 70 academic concentrations.
